Senior Citizen Programme

Countries with a large population like India have a large number of people now aged 60 years or more. The population over the age of 60 years has tripled in last 50 years in India and this increase in the elderly population is the result of changing fertility and mortality regimes over the last 40-50 years. Considering the plight of the aged people in rural and tribal areas we are providing promotional, preventive, curative and rehabilitative services in an integrated manner.

Senior Citizen Home

In the existing social scenario, a good chunk of senior citizens are deprived of care, and maintenance. They are considered un-productive and this results in frustration and a miserable life for these older persons. To provide them a peaceful life in their last stage, AIRA has undertaken different programs for their care, protection and rehabilitation and re-integration with family(s).
AIRA has been running the Home for Senior Citizens at 6 locations in Dhenkanal district and one in Angul district of Odisha. The Homes admit 25 senior citizens in each Home that provides necessary residential, recreational and health facilities to the inmates who are poor & distressed, destitute, widow and in need of care & protection. The organisation has engaged staff in the Homes to provide the specific services like, residential care, emotional support, nutritional food intake, recreational support, health care, counseling, complementary health services like Yoga & Pranayam to the inmates. Weekly health checkup exercises are conducted by the part time Doctor and Nursing staff and treatment with free medicines apart from referral services to the complicated cases. With a view to keep the older persons active & productive, there are arrangements of simple & stress free productive activities like rope making, kitchen gardening and leaf stitching etc. as per suitability and comfort of the respective inmate. There are arrangements of outing facility/ excursion trip for the beneficiaries of these Homes to different places of spiritual and cultural importance. Besides, International Day for the Older Persons and other culturally important days are observed with participation of the beneficiaries in the follows SrCHs.
